Good Practice Project

The Intercultural Partnership (ICUP) initiative has grown out of Together for  Humanity’s Good Practice Project.

Across 2017-2018, TFH worked with schools in three states to support school-based projects focused on fostering students’ acceptance of, and empathy with others, and encouraging tolerance for beliefs and practices that are different to their own.

The Good Practice Project developed, documented and shared examples of good practice. One way TFH has shared this work is in the new, free, online course for teachers – Cohesion in Diversity. The course features a number of school case studies including videos. The videos highlight the context of the intercultural understanding projects, activities undertaken by students as well as the challenges and benefits of implementing the project. You can watch some of these videos below.

Playford International College in South Australia, used action research data, that identified experiences of racism and tension between different cultural groups within their school, to plan experiences that brought their community together.

This video shows one activity and includes interviews with students and teachers including their Aboriginal education coordinator.

Granville Boys High School in NSW used a project-based learning approach to develop their ‘One Country Many cultures: What makes someone Australian?’ unit. This video features insights from the deputy principal into the benefits and challenges of partnerships with community organisations.

Lavington Public School in NSW focused on building intercultural understanding between Indigenous students and the wider school population and supporting student engagement and attendance at school.
